Bachy Soletanche’s commitment to health and safety was recently recognised when the company scooped the Safety Innovation prize at the 2022 Federation of Piling Specialists (FPS) awards.
The company was awarded the trophy for the innovative iGuard and training solution, developed alongside TSS2. The iGuard (ignition guard) is an access control module that can be retrofitted to tracked piling rigs and cranes, which allows only authorised and competent personnel to start the machine. The iGuard also offers a sustainability benefit by gathering data on engine idling times, helping to build awareness of the negative impact on the environment and identifying opportunities for improvement. The system works in conjunction with a training programme to ensure employees are fully qualified to operate the equipment.
Commenting on the award, Ian McKenna, Plant Technical Support Supervisor at Bachy Soletanche said:
“I take great pride in seeing the development of this innovation, from an initial conversation through to it now being an active part of our daily operations. Bachy Soletanche has a strong background in safety, sustainability and employee development, the iGuard system contributes to all three. Alongside TSS2, the team have come up with a solution that can be utilised in not only the piling sector but also the wider construction industry.”
Congratulations also go to Bachy Soletanche’s sister company, Vibro Menard, for picking up the Efficiency through Technology award. The ground improvement specialist was recognised for its OMNIBOX™ solution – an all-in-one development that enables a smooth data exchange from office-to-site-to-office and provides intelligent pilot assistance to operators for several ground improvement techniques.
