Bachy Soletanche offers geotechnical and civil engineering solutions to support the construction, repair or upgrade of all types of energy infrastructure, including energy-from-waste facilities, power plants, electrical substations, LNG storage tanks, gas pipelines, transmission lines, cable tunnels, nuclear power stations and biomass plants.
Demand for low-carbon fuels, complex planning and regulatory frameworks, geopolitical tensions, insufficient grid infrastructure and a lack of investment are posing an extraordinary challenge for the UK energy sector.
Energy Sector
We are in the midst of a global energy transition that is urging the sector to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and provide a reliable, affordable and sustainable energy supply.
Demand for low-carbon fuels, complex planning and regulatory frameworks, geopolitical tensions, insufficient grid infrastructure and a lack of investment are posing an extraordinary challenge for the UK energy sector.
Our experienced team, specialist plant, robust supply chain and logistical capabilities combine to deliver the foundations for resilient energy infrastructure that will serve the country throughout its transition to more sustainable sources of power.
We work closely with our clients from the early stages of a scheme to develop value-engineered solutions that reduce cost, time and greenhouse gas emissions wherever possible – whilst maximising the long-term value of energy infrastructure.
Bachy Soletanche has a comprehensive package of solutions at its disposal to suit the nuances of energy projects, including those that minimise emissions and are suitable for remote and less-accessible sites. Some of the techniques we have delivered on previous projects include retaining walls (secant and diaphragm walls), cut-off walls (Trenchmix) and restricted access piling.

Case Studies
North London Heat & Power, EcoPark South Phase 2
EcoPark South is the second phase of the North London Waste Authority’s (NWLA) scheme to create a sustainable waste management hub at Edmonton EcoPark, with expections to prevent 215,000 tonnes of CO2e emissions annually. Bachy Soletanche’s works included CFA piling, Trenchmix® Soil Mixing, Slurry Cut-Off Wall and Controlled Modulus Columns (CMCs).
Feeder 9 at Paull, River Humber
This project allows a new pipeline to run through the 5.4km tunnel and will help transport approximately 20% of the UK’s gas supply for the next 40 years. The previous pipeline was situated on the river bed and as a result had been subject to erosion. Bachy Soletanche’s design team re-engineered the project to reduce the pile diameter from 1200mm to 900mm, along with utilising the cased secant piled (CSP) method.
Foyers to Knocknagael, Inverness
Originally built over 40 years ago, this project is an upgrade to the existing 275kV double circuit, allowing future wind farms to power the new Knocknagael power station. Bachy Soletanche’s geotechnical package involved strengthening the current transmission tower foundation bases using minipiles. The remote locations and ruggedness of the terrain posed a logistical challenge.
