NVEST IN YOUR FUTURE.
REACH YOUR POTENTIAL.

Bachy Soletanche’s success is built upon our people, including our graduates and apprentices. We employ those that innovate, push boundaries, challenge the status quo and help to deliver outstanding project success for our clients. We firmly believe in helping apprentices and graduates achieve their potential within their career, empowering them to drive change, and provide them with the platform to deliver success. Through a mixture of training, development opportunities and mentoring, we continually invest in the next generation of engineers and geotechnical specialists to improve their skillsets and expertise.

As a prospective apprentice or recent graduate, you’ll appreciate the opportunity to apply your talents to projects that will provide you with the kind of challenges your skills deserve. Our Graduate and Apprentice schemes offer an insight into one of the UK’s leading geotechnical specialists, offering you the chance to work on a whole range of projects that will make the most of your skills.

We’ve been part of the construction teams responsible for carrying out some of the most prestigious and ambitious projects in the UK including CTRL, Crossrail and Lee Tunnel and we’re currently undertaking work on the huge Thames Tideway Tunnel scheme. We’re planning to build on these experiences and perhaps, with your help, play a significant part in the work on HS2 and much more!

*Unfortunately due to Health & Safety reasons and site requirements, applicants for the above programmes must be aged 18 years and above.

SUMMER PLACEMENTS

Bachy Soletanche offers students the ability to get a brief overview of the ground engineering industry during a summer placement. These placements are normally for a minimum of one month, but can be more, depending on the time available for the student. The placement will expose you to pre and post contract works, along with visits to operational sites.

Bachy Soletanche currently offers placement scholarship schemes with Surrey University (further details) and the University of Glasgow (further details).

APPRENTICESHIPS

To compliment and strengthen our existing teams, we offer a range of exciting trainee opportunities, including: a piling apprenticeship scheme in partnership with the Federation of Piling Specialists (FPS), higher level apprenticeships in civil engineering or quantity surveying and plant apprenticeship schemes in mechanics and fabrication/welding.

YEAR IN INDUSTRY PLACEMENTS

This represents an opportunity for undergraduates taking relevant university courses in Civil Engineering to come and work with the company for up to one year, generally starting in September. During your time with the company, you will learn about ground engineering techniques, from the early stages within the design team to spending time out on site as part of the project team.

Frequently Asked Questions

Apprenticeships are training programmes that offer hands-on work experience. Apprentices get a paid job with valuable training while they work towards a nationally recognised qualification.

Throughout the apprenticeship you will study alongside learning on the job. You’ll spend some of your time at college or university, learning the essential skills of your future role. The rest of the time, you’ll be putting what you’ve learnt into action in the workplace and on our projects. Your studies could be at a college, through a training provider, or via skills coaches who visit you in the workplace.

As you progress, you will build a portfolio of evidence showcasing your learning and development. Some apprenticeship courses involve block training, where you attend college for one to two weeks at a time, and others are on a day-release basis, where you study one day a week – this depends on the apprenticeship you choose.

Our Level 2 apprenticeships lead to jobs such as:

  • Construction operative
  • Land driller
  • Rig operator

Our technical apprenticeships lead to job such as:

  • Plant mechanic/fitter
  • Welder/fabricator
  • Civil engineer
  • Construction manager
  • Design engineer
  • Quantity surveyor

Our business apprenticeship route gives exposure to business support functions including:

  • Finance
  • HR
  • Marketing
  • Supply chain
  • General management

Apprenticeships are open to anyone in England aged 16 years old and above, whether they’re employed, unemployed or leaving school. There is no upper age limit.

The qualifications required for an apprenticeship depend on which course you choose to study. However, as a minimum requirement, we ask for GCSE (level 4+) English, Maths and Science.

Although, you don’t need any specific experience, we look for people who are inquisitive and take a practical approach to problem solving. You need to organise, plan and think ahead to make sure tasks are carried out in the correct way. We are also looking for those who are proactive and detail-oriented.

The duration of an apprenticeship depends on the course; however, our apprenticeships generally take two years for Level 3 and 4, and five years for Level 6 (degree level). Your apprenticeship will finish as soon as you’ve reached the required standards and gained the relevant qualifications.

We offer a competitive salary that is well above both the Apprenticeship Minimum Wage and the UK’s national average for a weekly apprenticeship wage. As you are counted as a regular employee, you will also receive benefits such as holidays, pension and the ability to join our Share Incentive Plan.

Whilst on your apprenticeship programme, you’ll be working towards a nationally recognised apprenticeship standard or framework, which is accredited by industry regulatory bodies. Some programmes also give you the opportunity to work towards other recognised qualifications, such as the EngTech membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

You’ll have the opportunity to gain a recognised qualification whilst gaining valuable work experience that will set you up for a successful career. We will offer you a competitive salary, which will continue to grow as you get more experienced and qualified. Alongside this, we’ll also pay your college or university fees.

Apprenticeships offer real prospects and real opportunities. If you’re curious, passionate about what you do, hungry for more responsibility and prepared to step out of your comfort zone, there are opportunities to build your career with us within our wider Group. Along your career journey you will be supported with coaching, training and great role models to help you reach your potential.

Applying for an apprenticeship is like applying for a job, so you will have to go through an application and interview process. Please visit our Careers page to view the apprenticeships that are currently available.
