The joint venture of Costain, VINCI Construction Grands Projets and Bachy Soletanche, working on the eastern section of the Thames Tideway Tunnel, has been awarded Community Engagement Champions at the Ground Engineering Awards 2020.
The team, located at Chambers Wharf, was recognised for their approach to engaging neighbouring stakeholders, employment of local people, team volunteering hours, communication methods, STEM activities, and their support and contribution to community groups.
The finalists all had to demonstrate a clear understanding of local concerns, present initiatives undertaken to integrate with the local community, show how challenging situations were effectively managed and provide examples of how the scheme will benefit the community beyond the delivery of the project. Commenting on the joint venture’s success, the judges said: “This entry was an excellent example of what community engagement looks like and how it should be executed. The winner went above and beyond engaging with the community.”
Martin Griffiths, Senior Community Relations Manager, added:
“This award is deserved recognition of not only the hard work the whole team has put in, but also that of the community within which we operate. Working together with the local stakeholders in Chambers Wharf has ultimately been a rewarding experience for everyone in the joint venture.”
Natasha Rudat, Tideway’s Head of Community Engagement, said:
“This is a well-deserved recognition of the team’s hard work and dedication to being part of the communities in which we work.”
